Storytelling
Stories provide points of connection and remind us of the power of relationships to break down otherness, find common ground, and elevate our shared humanity. That’s why we're collecting stories about mentoring in real life—stories from mentors, mentees, programs, and anyone with a personal connection to mentoring.
Shining a Light on Outstanding Mentors
Join us in celebrating the incredible mentors in New York State! At the MENTOR of the Year Awards, we recognize volunteers whose stories never fail to move and inspire us. Nominations come in from Buffalo to Brooklyn, and our independent selection committee chooses just four mentors to receive this prestigious award.
Recognition is about more than just a trophy. It's about shining a spotlight on life-changing mentoring relationships and the mentors who make a difference in their communities. Do you know someone who deserves recognition? Nominate them today!

Crafting a Successful Story
You don't have to be a wordsmith to tell a compelling tale, but there are a few things to keep in mind when submitting your story. Head over to Words Matter for tips on how to use asset-based language when talking about young people. You can also review the Rubric used by our Awards selection committee. If you have any questions about the process, please contact Cassy Lalanne.
Calling Young Writers!
Do you have something to say but need a platform to say it? MENTOR New York welcomes pitches from writers under 21 who are eager to share their voice with the world. Whether you're passionate about mentoring in schools, advice for mentees, or delving into how adults can empower young people, we want to hear from you! Your work will be fully credited, and you'll be supported by our marketing team. So, what are you waiting for?
